Government Pays Off Research and Book Allowances to CETAG Members, Ending Weeks-Long Strike will CETAG Call the strike off?

In a move that is set to bring relief to the education sector, the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Professor Ahmed Jinapor, has announced that the government has paid all research and book allowances owed to members of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG). This development comes after weeks of strike action by CETAG members, which had left students in various training colleges without tutors.

The strike, which began several weeks ago, was called by CETAG to demand payment of their research and book allowances, which had been outstanding for some time. The strike had disrupted educational activities in the institutions, leaving students without tutors and parents worried about the impact on their children's education.

However, with the payment of the allowances, the strike is expected to come to an end, and educational activities are expected to resume soon. According to Professor Jinapor, the payment is aimed at enhancing teaching and learning in the institutions, which have been affected by the strike.

Speaking at the investiture of Professor Prince Boateng, who has been elevated from Acting Principal to substantive Principal of Ada College of Education, Professor Jinapor said, "GTEC is currently working with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to ensure that all staff is placed on the scheme." He added, "CETAG is on strike on the grounds that they want a top-up of their book and research allowance paid, and I am glad that the monies have finally been paid."

In a major breakthrough in the ongoing negotiations between the government and the College of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), a substantial payment of one hundred and ninety-nine million Ghana cedis plus has been agreed upon. This significant development brings hope to the dedicated teachers who have been awaiting their well-deserved compensation.

According to Professor Jinapor, the funds will be accessible from Monday, July 15, 2024, through the Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS). This news is a welcome relief for the teachers who have been patiently waiting for this moment. The payment is a testament to the government's commitment to honoring its obligations and recognizing the hard work and dedication of Ghana's educators. As the news spreads, it will undoubtedly bring smiles to the faces of these deserving teachers, who can now look forward to a well-deserved financial boost. This development is a significant step towards resolving the ongoing impasse and paves the way for a harmonious relationship between the government and CETAG.

This news is a welcome relief to students, parents, and educators who have been affected by the strike. The payment of the research and book allowances is a testament to the government's commitment to supporting the education sector and ensuring that teachers have the resources they need to provide quality education.

The strike had caused significant disruption to educational activities in the institutions, with students missing out on valuable learning time. However, with the payment of the allowances, teachers are expected to return to the classrooms, and educational activities are expected to resume soon.

The government's decision to pay off the research and book allowances owed to CETAG members is a major victory for the education sector. It demonstrates the government's commitment to supporting teachers and students and ensuring that they have the resources they need to succeed.

The payment of research and book allowances to CETAG members is a significant development that is set to bring relief to the education sector.
