President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Frank Serebour, has reiterated that the organization will not call off its planned strike until it receives the Social Security and National Insurance Fund (SSNIT) official confirmation that the sale of its hotels has been suspended.

Dr. Serebour emphasized that the circulating SSNIT letter and brochure are fake, missing official letterheads and signatures."We have also seen a brochure from SSNIT about the suspension of mobile phone sales, but no form letter from SSNIT. We have not seen any letter signed by SSNIT, so we have not received any official notification on this matter."Dr. Serebour emphasized that a press conference or an official written announcement from SSNIT will be required to confirm the cancellation of the sale.

He believes that anyone can make flyers and therefore SSNIT should officially write or hold a press conference to confirm the end of the hotel sale. The GMA president reiterated that the organized labor strike will continue because nothing sensible is being done to stop it.

He revealed: "I cannot tell you that we have stopped the strike, it is still going on." Dr Serebour also expressed concern about SSNIT's demand to dissolve the board and asked who would be responsible for stopping sales if the board is dissolved."If the government falls, who's going to cancel the sale? I think we have fundamental issues that we may have to deal with after that, but right now my position is to just withdraw the sale. get back to work."

Dr. Serebour justified the need for the strike considering its impact on all Ghanaians, including the private sector associated with SSNIT. He described the strike as unprecedented due to the unanimous support of all unions."I have been involved in work for quite a long time and I have never seen such a unanimous decision where all the unions support this.

Even in the health sector, the morgue, the laboratory workers. , Doctors, nurses, midwives and health workers showed solidarity with the mortuary union, which means the hospital is a restricted area."GMA announced that it will continue to provide emergency services on Monday, July 15, but outpatient clinics will remain closed..

The the background of the Strike

The Ghana Medical Association and other organized labor groups had designated July 15 as the start of industrial action, following the NPRA's approval of SSNIT's plan to sell its hotels, which had sparked the controversy. Rock City Hotel had withdrawn its offer to purchase the hotels, citing negative publicity. In a statement released late on July 12, SSNIT announced that it had suspended its planned sale to Minister Bryan Acheampong's hotel.
