Professor Ahmed Jinapor encourages CETAG to call off strike.
Professor Ahmed Jinapor, the head of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission(GTEC), Speaking at the 16th Congregation of the Ofinso College of Education, he encourages CETAG to return to the classroom while negotiations with the government continues. He assures them that their concerns are being addressed and their well-being is a top priority. The college principal, Very Rev. Dr Joseph Asamoah, agrees that teachers should return to class, as their absence is disrupting the academic calendar.
The students have been studying on their own for two weeks, and the semester is only 16 weeks long. If teachers don't return soon, it will throw off the entire schedule. Professor Jinapor explains that the issue is not about money, but about fair working conditions. To become a lecturer, you need a PhD, and if you don't have one, you're on a probationary period. Some teachers are on contracts that last four years, and if they don't meet the requirements, their contracts will be terminated.
