NUGS Demands Immediate and Amicable Resolution
The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) is deeply concerned about the escalating situation surrounding the CETAG strike, now in its 40th day. The recent developments, including the stoppage of July 2024 salaries for teaching staff and CETAG's withdrawal of all services, have raised the stakes. As the representative body for Ghanaian students, NUGS is compelled to demand an immediate and amicable resolution to this dispute.
The leadership of NUGS, in collaboration with the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG), has been engaging with the Minister for Education, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, to address this issue. While we appreciate the concerns of all parties involved, we cannot stress enough the need for a swift resolution. The prolonged strike is causing significant stress and uncertainty among students, disrupting the academic calendar, and delaying final exams.
The risks involved in this continued stalemate are too significant to disregard. The education and future of thousands of students hang in the balance. It is imperative that all parties prioritize the well-being and interests of students. NUGS remains steadfast in advocating for the rights and welfare of students, ensuring that their voices are heard and their concerns addressed.
The National Union of Ghana Students is passionately urging the government, CETAG, GTEC, and all stakeholders to come together and engage in constructive dialogue, seeking a mutually beneficial solution that works for everyone. We can't stress enough how crucial it is to find a resolution that prioritizes the academic progress of students, who are the ones suffering the most in this dispute. It's unacceptable that their education and future are being held hostage due to this impasse.
NUGS is calling on all parties to put aside their differences and work towards a swift resolution, one that ensures academic activities resume without further delay. The clock is ticking, and every day that passes means more lost learning opportunities, more uncertainty, and more anxiety for students.
"We're not just talking about statistics or numbers; we're talking about young people's lives, their dreams, and their aspirations. Let's put the interests of students at the forefront and work together to find a solution that benefits everyone. Let's get students back in the classroom, learning and growing, without further disruption. The future of Ghana's youth depends on it."
NUGS assures all students that they will continue to engage with relevant parties to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. NUGS goal is to ensure that students can continue their education without additional disruption. "We encourage students to remain calm and focused on their studies, knowing that we are working tirelessly to address this situation."
