Government and CETAG Find Common Ground
The Government Team and the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) met on August 19, 2024, to address the pressing concerns of CETAG members. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR) Conference Room, marked a crucial step towards resolving the ongoing impasse.
After intense discussions, both parties reached a mutually beneficial agreement. The key takeaways from the meeting include:
1. Adoption of a unified nomenclature, Scheme of Service, and Conditions of Service, mirroring those of affiliate universities.
2. A commitment to reflect payment adjustments in October 2024, followed by a meeting to discuss a plan for settling all arrears.
3. Progress on the Compensation for All Year Round, with the Ministry of Finance completing groundwork for validated colleges and forwarding it to the Ministry of Education for payment by the end of August.
4. A pledge to release frozen July 2024 salaries once CETAG calls off its strike action.
5. An agreement from CETAG representatives to consult with their Council and potentially call off the strike by August 20, 2024.
This breakthrough signals a renewed sense of cooperation and understanding between the Government Team and CETAG. As we move forward, it's essential to acknowledge the tireless efforts of all parties involved.
