Trainees at St. Teresa’s College of Education (Teresco) made their voices heard when representatives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) visited the school to campaign at the SRC Week celebration.

The NPP team, led by a spokesperson, received loud boos and disapproval from the students as they tried to promote government policies.

The campaign leader began by highlighting government initiatives aimed at benefiting teachers and teacher trainees.

He claimed that the government had promised to restore the teacher trainees’ allowance and had already approved payments to students.

He also stated that accessing loans from the Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) was now easier, as teacher trainees could use their Ghana cards to apply.

However, the students quickly responded by booing the NPP representatives. The reason for their strong reaction was the false claim that teacher trainees could access student loans from the SLTF.

Nursing and teacher trainees are not eligible for these loans, as they already receive allowances from the government. Watch the video below

The students' discontent grew louder, and some even waved flags and scarves representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in protest.

This display was a clear indication of their dissatisfaction with the ruling party and their desire for change.  And they believe that, what the campaign team was saying is not true.

The incident at Teresco highlights the growing political awareness among students and their willingness to stand up for what they believe in.
