Yesterday, a meeting took place involving the Ministry of Education (MoE), PRINCOF, GTEC, and TTAG.
Below are the breakdown of the meeting
1. Feeding Component Refund for level 400s
PRINCOF has confirmed that six months of feeding component arrears for Level 400 students have been credited to your accounts. For the first semester, you should receive GHC 960.00 (GHC 8.00 per day for 120 days). However, there was some confusion since you were given GHC 6.50 for the first two months, but GTEC has made up the difference.
For the second semester, because of the six-week extension, a small deduction will be made from your funds. PRINCOF has been asked to discuss this and get back to you with a final decision within the week. You can expect a final calculation for the second semester once discussions are complete. PRINCOF has promised to issue a letter soon, so you should receive your refund within the week.
2. Allowance Increment
You might be wondering about the allowance increase. Unfortunately, the Minister of Education said that due to it being an election year, the government cannot adjust the national budget until after the elections. So, no allowance increase will happen this year.
3. Payment of Allowances
Good news on this front—two months of allowance arrears are currently sitting in the accounts of the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF). The disbursement of these funds should be done by the end of the week.
4. Direct Payment of Allowances to Level 400 Students
There was a proposal to pay allowances directly and in full to Level 400 students. This can be done, but only if you are willing to settle your school fees debts first, as principals often use your allowances to clear part of those debts.
