Kofi Peprah, who teaches at Bawku R/C Basic School in the Upper East Region, bought a plot of land in 2017 with the hope of building a home for his family. He used his entire life savings to construct the house, reaching the lintel level, and was eagerly planning to finish it soon.
However, the situation took a turn when a new chief was appointed in Akyeremade. The chief allegedly introduced a policy requiring owners of uncompleted buildings within his jurisdiction to pay GH¢100,000 or risk losing their property.
When Kofi Peprah could not afford to pay the fee, the chief ordered the demolition of his house.
In a video that quickly spread online, Kofi Peprah was seen crying uncontrollably, devastated by the loss of his property. The footage shows the teacher’s building reduced to rubble.
