The newly recruited teachers from the 2022 batch of Ghana's Colleges of Education have raised concerns over delays in their salary payments and issuance of staff IDs.
In a letter addressed to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) dated November 11, 2024, the teachers, who were posted just a few months ago, expressed the financial struggles they are currently facing due to these delays.

These teachers have embraced their roles with dedication, eager to contribute positively to the academic development of their students.
However, the lack of timely salary payments has made it challenging for them to meet basic needs such as rent, transportation, and daily living expenses.
According to the letter, they have been at their posts for over three months without receiving any pay.
The teachers highlighted two key issues for urgent intervention:
1. Timely Issuance of Staff IDs
Staff IDs are essential for teachers to be recognized within the GES system and to access the payroll. Without these IDs, it is difficult for their payments to be processed. The teachers urged GES to prioritize issuing staff IDs to prevent further payment delays.
2. Payment of Salaries
Many of these teachers are now struggling financially due to the lack of income. They noted that if the situation persists, they might be forced to abandon their posts in search of other ways to support themselves.

The teachers concluded by urging the GES to address these concerns quickly to help them focus on their work without financial stress.
