The Teachers and Educational Workers' Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in Ghana has issued a serious warning about a potential strike. This comes after years of delays in implementing their Conditions of Service for members working under the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Ghana Library Authority, the Museums and Monuments Board, and public universities.
TEWU members have been waiting for over four years for the government to finalize and implement their Conditions of Service. Despite several rounds of negotiations, there has been little progress. This delay has caused growing frustration among members.

With the new academic year already in progress, including the admission of first-year students, TEWU believes the situation has be come urgent. Members say they cannot continue working under unclear and unfair conditions.
TEWU’s patience is running out. The union has announced that if the government does not act quickly to address the issue, members will begin an indefinite strike on Monday, November 18, 2024. This means that schools, libraries, museums, and other educational institutions could face disruptions.
TEWU is urging stakeholders, including the government, to respond promptly and resolve the issues peacefully. They hope to avoid disruptions in the education sector but emphasize that members deserve better working conditions.

The union has made it clear that they are committed to standing for truth, enlightenment, wisdom, and unity. However, they insist that their demands for improved conditions of service cannot be ignored any longer.
