The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has issued a press statement addressing recent false news about an increase in teacher trainees’ allowances. According to TTAG, there has been no official confirmation from the Ministry of Education regarding an increase in allowances from GH₵400.00 to GH₵800.00. The association clarified that this information is untrue.

Proposal for Allowance Increase Yet to Be Approved

TTAG revealed that, on July 4, 2024, they submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Education, requesting an increment in the allowances. Unfortunately, the Ministry has not yet responded to this proposal. TTAG remains hopeful that the government will take action to support teacher trainees by considering the increment.

Four Months of Allowance Still Unpaid

In addition to the issue of the increment, TTAG highlighted that teacher trainees in all 46 public colleges of education are still owed four months of allowances for the second semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, which ended on October 11, 2024. This delay is a source of concern for the association and the trainees.

Call to Action

TTAG is appealing to the government, through the Ministry of Education, to urgently pay the arrears and respond to their request for an increment. They emphasized that this would greatly empower teacher trainees across the country, enabling them to focus on their education without financial struggles.
