WAEC Delays Results Due to Lack of Funds

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced delays in releasing the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

This issue, they say, is due to funding delays from the Ministry of Education. Many students hoping to use their results for tertiary education applications are affected.

In a press release dated December 9, 2024, and signed by John K. Kapi, Head of Public Affairs, WAEC explained that while the marking of essay and practical components of the examination was completed on November 29, 2024, the process of scanning objective test cards has been stalled.

This is because some scanners have broken down, and funds needed for their repair and other post-examination tasks have not been provided.

WAEC highlighted that they are waiting on additional funds from the Ministry of Education. “The Council is awaiting the release of additional funds out of the outstanding balance of GHC118,000,000.00 from the Ministry of Education to enable the scanning process and other post-examination processes to continue smoothly,” the release stated.

This funding issue has also delayed the release of results, which has caused concern among students and parents.

WAEC has urged the public to disregard unofficial release dates being circulated on social media. “Members of the public are urged to ignore information circulating on social media, purporting to be dates for the release of the results.

The results will only be released once all post-examination challenges are resolved,” WAEC cautioned.

The Council also appealed for patience from examination officials and suppliers who are yet to be paid. “The council wishes to appeal to its cherished examination officials and suppliers to exercise restraint as payment of their services will be made as soon as the needed funds are released from the Ministry of Education,” they assured.

WAEC hopes the Ministry of Education will act quickly to resolve these challenges and ensure the smooth completion of the examination process. Students, parents, and other stakeholders are encouraged to remain calm while awaiting further updates.
