The Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church in the Wenchi West District of the Bono Region recently honored 20 girls for preserving their virginity. This took place during a thanksgiving service held on the first Sabbath of 2025.
The girls, aged between 13 and 16, were given financial gifts for their upkeep as part of the event. Mrs. Nana Amponsah Poku, the District Coordinator of the Young Adventist Women Ministries, praised the girls for their commitment and encouraged them to remain pure until marriage.
“God created you uniquely beautiful, and you must not allow anybody to lure and break your virginity until you marry,” she said. She further advised the girls to be mindful of the friends they associate with in 2025.
Mrs. Poku emphasized the need to revisit traditional practices like puberty rites, which she said help safeguard girls against promiscuity. “The ancient Bragoro or Dipo rite was essential in preserving girls’ virginity and controlling teenage pregnancies,” she added.

Pastor Andrews Dua Bour Kyere, Associate Pastor of the district, also applauded the girls and urged others in the church to focus on their education while staying morally upright.
Some of the honored girls expressed joy and gratitude to the church for recognizing their efforts and supporting their spiritual and personal development.
This initiative reflects the church’s commitment to guiding young girls to grow into responsible and productive adults in society.
